1999-2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 Accessories & Parts
For many years Chevrolet fans were accustomed to the C & K series of full-sized trucks. That all changed in 1999 with the first generation of the Chevrolet Silverado. As a trim package of the earlier K series trucks, the name Silverado has already had a place badged on GM’s truck line up. It was only right it make its return here.
The C & K series lineup has always been a straightforward, work oriented design. This was suiting for its time, the Silverado arriving onto the scene with an all new, well rounded appearance.
The 1999-2002 Silverado was much more modern in styling than that of the earlier full-sized trucks. Under the hood owners could have a 4.3 liter V6 making 200 horsepower, a 4.8 Liter V8 making 255 horsepower, or a 5.3 liter V8 producing 285 horsepower. There are two available transmissions: either a 5-speed manual for the V6 only or a 4-speed automatic that may live behind any available engine.
The final drive ratios standard to these trucks are 3.08:1, 3.42:1 or 3.73:1. The cab offerings are standard, extended, or crew cabs that can be matched with either a 6.6-foot bed or an 8-foot bed. The Silverado is at heart, and always will be, a work truck. That being said, these trucks are capable of towing a payload of up to 9,400 pounds behind them.
In 2003 the Silverado went under the knife for the first time. Though very different in appearance than the ‘99-’02 models, the ’03-’06 models and the 07’ Classic are considered to be a part of the first generation of Silverados. The same engines with one addition can be found under the hood and a boost in power across the board.
The 4.3 still produces the same 200 horsepower, and the 4.8 makes 285 horsepower. The 5.3 makes 310 horsepower, and the additional 6.0 liter makes V8 345 horsepower. The transmissions backing this are of course a 5-speed manual that can be paired up with the V6, while the 4-speed automatics can be found behind any engine option. The standard ring gears in these models are 3.23:1, 3.73:1, and 4.10:1.
The maximum towing capacity of this rig ranges all the way up to 10,300 pounds. This means owners really have to try and find something out of range for this half ton. The same three cab options are present: standard, extended, or crew. About the biggest body change is the addition of the 5.8 foot bed that came standard with crew cab trucks.
The first generation of Silverados can wear the Z71 badge, which symbolizes an off-road package equipped from the factory. This is a declaration that these trucks are more than capable of breaking the norm and hitting the trails with just a little bit of help. When you’re ready to take that truck and beef it up, AmericanTrucks is there for you. As this generation of trucks barrels in on its 20th birthday, the aftermarket is exploding with all sorts of accessories. Our inventory is also bursting at the seams, so whatever your demand, look us up.
